Development Program Opportunities: 2018

MVSC aims to provide motivated, dedicated soccer players with an opportunity to benefit from a professionally coached, player development program during the fall season.

For most of the opportunities listed below, participation is by invitation only, and requires potential candidates to participate in our spring tryouts.  Tryouts for these age groups will incorporate a player placement model.  Tryout information and schedule will be posted at a later date.

All players in these age groups who attend our tryouts in May will be provided with an opportunity to participate in one of the following opportunities:

MVSC’s Competitive Teams (U8-U19)

  • Participation requirements:  By invitation only, after participation in Tryouts.
  • Costs:  (see the Costs table on the Competitive Soccer.)

MVSC typically sponsors 1-4 Competitive Teams for each age group/gender (e.g., U10 Girls).  Competitive teams practice as a team, and they travel and compete with other competitive clubs’ teams in weekend league games and tournaments.  Competitive Team players receive Professional Coaching at all practices and games.  Players who attend our Tryouts and demonstrate the highest levels of athleticism, technical ability, tactical understanding, and emotional maturity will receive invitations to play on a Competitive Team.  For more information about our competitive team program, please see our Competitive Soccer page.

U8-U12 Development Program Leagues ("DPL")

  • Participation requirements:  By invitation only, after participation in Tryouts.
  • Costs:  $550 (includes $280 registration fee + $270 professional training fee)

MVSC intends to form DPLs  for our U8-12 Age Groups, if a sufficient pool of qualified, interested players presents at our Tryouts.  We plan on forming DPLs by dual-band age groups (e.g., U8/9, U9/10, U11/12) for boys and girls.  Our DPLs will consist of teams made up of players who are of comparable soccer ability, dedication and maturity, who are looking for a strong developmental soccer experience in the fall.  Only ability-appropriate players who demonstrate appropriate focus, coachability, and emotional readiness will be offered invitations to join.  DPL teams will practice twice per week during the fall season, and DPL teams will play each other in weekend games.  All DPL team practices will be run by MVSC’s professional coaching staff.  Weekend games will be coached by volunteer parent coaches, and facilitated by a Professional Coach.  Players who accept invitations to play in our DPLs will not register for or participate in MVSC’s open recreational program.  For more information on the 2018 Fall Development Program Leagues, visit the Development Program League page.

U8-U14 Development Program - Group ("DPG")

  • Participation requirements:  By invitation only, after participation in tryouts.
  • Costs:  $150

DPGs consist of players who are of comparable soccer ability, dedication and maturity, who are looking for a skill-intensive, developmental training experience as a supplement to their Recreational Team experience.  Only ability-appropriate players who demonstrate appropriate focus, coachability, and emotional readiness may be offered invitations to join a DPG.  DPGs train once/week with a professional coach.  DPG participants are expected to attend a minimum of one practice per week with their respective Recreational teams as well as all of their Rec Teams’ weekend games.  DPGs are only formed in an age/gender group in which the player pool presenting at our Tryouts supports DPG formation (i.e., a full group of motivated, ability-appropriate players for whom there is not a place on one of our Competitive teams).  MVSC will not be forming a DPG in age/gender groups in which we form Leagues.

U8-U14 Development Program - Individual ("DPI")

  • Participation requirements:  By invitation only, after participation in tryouts.

DPI opportunities enable an individual player to practice during the fall with a competitive team as a supplement to a player’s commitment to his or her Recreational team’s practices and games.  In order to ensure an appropriate Coach/Player ratio at the Competitive Team practices, only a limited number of DPI invitations can be extended.  DPI opportunities will be offered only to players who demonstrate appropriate ability, focus, etc., to benefit from and contribute to the standard of play within the training environment of a Competitive Team.  DPI opportunities are not available by request.  These opportunities are not provided for every age group, and invitations will be offered by our Professional Staff only to qualified players who tryout for competitive teams.

MVSC’s Player Placement approach aims to provide motivated players with an opportunity to benefit from a professionally coached, developmental training opportunity during the fall season, regardless of their current level of athleticism or ability.  If you have questions about any of these opportunities, please contact our Director of Coaching and Player Development, Rick Fullerton.
